Day 3 Roundup: Canada, Indiana, and Hawaii win Elimination games to stay alive

On another warm California summer day, we had our first three elimination games of the tournament

The noon game was the first elimination game, pitting Alberta Canada against the Czech Republic.  Alberta scored runs in six different innings on their way to a 10-4 win. They were led by Brayden Peters, who was 2-3 with a double and home run, and Ty Weavers, who went 4-4 with 2 runs scored. On the mound, Dawson Leroux pitched 4 1/3 innings, striking out 8 and yielding only 1 run.

Canada will face Curacao in another elimination game at 9am PST Wednesday

In the second game of the day, Bedford, Indiana scored 5 runs in the first and held off Vineland, New Jersey to win by a score of 8-5. Braydon Brown hit a 2-run homer in the fourth, and Whitt Calahan went 2-4 with a double to power the offense. Brayden and Whitt also combine to pitch all seven innings, limited New Jersey to three earned runs.

Bedford will face Hawaii at noon on Wednesday in another elimination game.

In the third and last elimination game of the day, Maui, Hawaii exploded for 8 runs in the third inning on their way to a 14-4 win over Houston, Texas to stay alive in the Intermediate World Series. Kamaha’o Ching hit his first ever walk-off home run, capping off a 2-3 effort at the plate, and Isiah Kekahuna Hernandez pitched 6 strong, gutty innings while also helping himself out at the plate by going 1-3 with 2 RBI’s.

Hawaii plays Indiana in another elimination game Wednesday, August 3rd at noon PST.
