Freehold Township Little League from Freehold, New Jersey was a little nervous in their first game of the Intermediate World Series. And after getting down 2-0 after 3 innings, Manager Jeff Gorman wondered when his offense would finally wake up.
And it woke up in a hurry. Jayce Shapiro ignited the offense when he tied the game with a 2-run HR off a fastball, and two batters later John Abrahamsen hit a solo HR to give New Jersey a lead that they would never surrender.
John unloaded on another fastball in the sixth for a 3-run HR. This second home run was estimated at well over 300 feet.
Three Freehold pitchers limited the Highlander Youth Recreation Little League team from Georgetown, Indiana to only 7 hits and 1 walk. The most impressive pitching performance may have been from Jayce Shapio. He retired all five batters he faced, on a mere 7 pitches, which consisted primarily of his new-found knuckle ball.
For Indiana, Jadon Stoner was the star, going 3-3 with a double and RBI, and retiring all 6 batters he faced.
With the loss, Indiana has now been eliminated from the Intermediate World series
