Radames Lopez Little League from Guayama, Puerto Rico came into the International Championship undefeated, and looking to advance to the Intermediate Championship game for the second time in five years.
But to get there, they would need to beat the team from Cacique Mara Little League from Maracaibo, Venezuela for a second time in the tournament.
Venezuela scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth, and took a 2-1 lead. Puerto Rico Manager Henry Torres admitted that there were some anxious times at that moment.
But Puerto Rico responded with 7 runs in the top of the 6th, as Peter Vasquez homered to tie the game and three batters later Jorge Rodriguez hit a 2-run homer.
Peter Vasquez went 2-2 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs, Jorge Rodriguez was 2-3 with a walk, 2 RBI and 2 runs, and Yeneil Rodriquez was 2-3 with 3 RBI.
John Bermudez was dominant on the mound, pitching 4 2/3 innings, while giving up no earned runs, and only 3 hits and 1 BB while striking out 4.
For Venezuela, Newremberg Rondon pitched equally as well, going 4 innings, surrendering only one run, 2 hits, and no walks while striking out 8.
